Quebec Skilled Worker Program will have one more intake period

The province of Quebec in Canada receives thousands of immigrant workers each year, one’s whose skills are relevant to particular market needs.

This program called – Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP) for Immigration to Canada – makes it easy for many skilled professionals to find work and settle in the country.

The province has confirmed that this flagship immigration program, the QSWP, will have at least one more application intake period in 2016, brightening the chances of many who were looking to make a move to the province under this scheme.

No exact opening date of the program has been made public as of now, but the government of Quebec has stated that it is scheduled for the summer months.

It is not clear how many applications may be accepted during this intake period, but estimates show that up to 7,000 applications may be accepted for the period 2016-2017.

According to immigration experts, the announcement that another intake period will take place in just a few months will give candidates who do not successfully submit an application over the course of the current intake period another opportunity to submit an application later in 2016, after which new changes are expected to kick in.

The QSWP application intake this summer is expected to be on the same first-come, first-served basis that is currently in place and perhaps the last of its kind that permits individuals to apply for immigration to Canada without having to be invited to apply.

A first-come first-serve approach (currently followed by Quebec) means that once you meet all the requirements and apply, you will be granted a visa without having to compete with other applicants.

However, this approach could be a thing of the past as it is in direct contrast to the Express Entry system currently used by the Government of Canada.

Quebec is likely to follow the latter approach implementing an economic immigration system similar to that of the country.
Under the Express Entry System, all applicants are put in one pool and the brightest are picked.

If you decide to immigrate to Quebec under QSWP scheme (in its current form), you will first have to obtain a Certificat de sélection du Quebec before applying for permanent residence in Canada.

Your selection criteria is based on several factors like education, occupational skills, language knowledge, age, if you have any family in the province or have visited before, human capital factors of the applicant’s spouse if you have children or not, and if the applicant has a job offer in Quebec.

You will also need to have a medical exam and get a police check (certificate).
All immigrants must have these checks, no matter where they plan to live in Canada.

It’s always wise to know the conditions of the Regular Skilled Worker Program and what all you should do before completing your official immigration application.
Also, remember to check if your trade or profession is regulated in Quebec.

The average processing times for an application for a Certificat de sélection du Québec depends on your country or territory of origin.
