HIGHLIGHTS OF FAMILY REUNIFICATION ADMISSIONS
Canada has one of the most generous family reunification programs in the world. Canadian citizens and permanent residents may sponsor spouses or partners, dependent children, parents, grandparents and other close relatives to become permanent residents as Family Class immigrants. In 2014, IRCC admitted 66,661 permanent residents to Canada in the Family Class, which is within the planned admission range of 63,000 to 68,000 but represents a 16.3% decrease compared to 2013. IRCC issued 68,075 visas and authorizations for permanent residence in the Family Class. While not a pathway to permanent residence, the super visa allows parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to visit Canada for up to two years at a time, with the visa being valid for 10 years. In 2014, IRCC issued 17,276 super visas. In 2014, IRCC admitted 45,389 spouses, partners and children as permanent residents under the Family Class, which is within the planned admission range of 45,000 to 48,000.
