Do Canadian universities prepare students well for the job market?
Who better to answer that question than the students themselves? A research asked 17,000 students of Canadian universities across the country whether they feel prepared for the job market after graduation. That research is the second annual student survey by Maclean’s magazine. The studies, published in 2017, included information about how often students of Canadian universities cheat on tests, how much time they study, party, work or do any type of extracurricular activities. The research meant to give a very broad panorama of student’s life nowadays across Canadian universities.
But one of the most interesting data of the research was about how students felt about the job market. Respondents, broken down by programs, commented on how their universities offered them insights to best perform on the job market after graduation. Students also replied whether the universities helped them develop their writing ability. Of course, the survey self-reported and anonymous. But we can check below an overview of students opinions about these topics.

In addition to students opinions, professors also gave information to the survey whether students had the academic skills required for a successful career after graduation. More than 1,300 faculty members answered the research. And they said that international students are better prepared for math than domestic students. But both groups get a low rating in everything else in teachers opinions. In general, professors feel that fewer than 35 percent of first-years are adequately prepared for class.
